St. Joseph the Worker Society - Altar Boys

The altar boys at St. Gertrude are members of the St. Joseph Society, which is recruiting new members.

The St. Joseph the Worker Society recruits young men from the 4th grade through high school. They are trained to serve holy Mass and other important liturgical celebrations. The Society for the young men will be an opportunity for them to be mentored in Dominican spirituality, build community, and provide needed service to the church. It is a program of fraternity, discipline, accountability, and discernment; the spirituality of manhood, priesthood, and fatherhood is the focus of the training for our young men. This program is organized by the pastor and parochial vicars and will involve fathers from the parish as well.

There are three mandatory training sessions:

  • 1st Session: Monday, Oct. 2, 6-8:30pm, Introduction into the Ministry of Altar Server, The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Explanation of liturgical objects, vestments, etc.
  • 2nd Session: Thursday, Oct. 5, 6-8:30pm, How to serve Mass.
  • 3rd Session: Friday, Oct. 13, 6-8:30pm, How to serve Mass.
