Considering Entering the Catholic Church?

RCIA is the process through which adults are fully initiated in the Catholic Faith community. The process provides for different levels of entry. Please visit our RCIA page for additional information.

Baby-Sitting During Masses

Parents are welcome to utilize our free baby-sitting services provided in the East/West Room in the Parish Center during the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Masses on Sundays (normally babysitting is not provided on special holidays, such as Easter and Christmas; we welcome families with babies and toddlers in church for worship, but please be conscious of utilizing the vestibule if your child begins to cry, thank you!).

Receiving the Sacraments

Sacrament of Matrimony

Call the Priory at 513-561-5954 for information.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

Wednesday, during Holy Hour 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
(or by appointment by calling the Priory)

Sacrament of First Reconciliation and Communion

Children preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist must attend Religious Education or Catholic School regularly and actively participate in a two year preparation program. In addition, parents attend two meetings prior to each Sacrament to help lead their children through the final preparation.

Sacrament of Baptism

You must be a registered parishioner or live within the parish boundaries to request the sacrament for your child. Parents must attend our Baptism catechesis class (first Sunday of each month, 1:45 p.m. in the Parish Center) after first meeting with one of our priests in our parish offices in order to obtain the correct forms and information (godparents/sponsors must fill out a particular form, signed by their pastor from their home parish). Baptisms take place on second, third and fourth Sundays of each month (excluding the season of Lent). The class explains the necessity of Baptism and the role of the parents as the primary teachers of their children in the ways of faith. The catechesis is provided by our parish priests & a team of lay people. Special factors may cause this to vary. Check with the office and watch the bulletin.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation Preparation Classes last a full year. Along with regular attendance and classroom participation, candidates are expected to complete a minimum of 25 hours of community service. In addition there are candidate/sponsor meetings and a retreat. Usually this Sacrament is celebrated when the child is in 8th grade. Contact the Religious Education Office at (513) 561-8369. If you are an adult contact one of our priests directly in the Priory at (513) 561-5954.

Sacrament of Annointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Sick is a healing Sacrament of the Church. Anyone who is sick or elderly and in need of physical or emotional healing can come to our Healing Mass which is celebrated on the first Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. Within this Mass we will communally celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Those being anointed should sit in the front pews of the church. If you wish to be anointed and are not able to come to this 1st Saturday Mass, please call the secretary (561-5954 x104) and let her know that you would like one of our priests to make a home visit.

Those who would like to receive the Sacrament before a hospital stay or surgery are invited to call the parish office to make arrangements. The Sacrament is also available to those who may be near death. Please inform the parish office when a friend or relative from the parish enters or leaves the hospital. The parish bulletin has a section for names of people who are sick to notify the entire parish to pray.

Ministry to the sick and shut-ins

St. Gertrude has a comprehensive system of caring for our elderly and shut-ins through the help of extraordinary lay ministers of the Eucharist. By calling the "St. Gertrude Careline", our sick and shut-ins are able to receive communion once a week and are visited by a priest once per month for other sacramental needs. Please call St. Gertrude in order to obtain the phone number for the St. Gertrude Careline. If you know a sick or shut-in Catholic within parish boundaries who would like to receive communion, please call the St. Gertrude Careline and notify us. Likewise if you know a parishioner who will go into the hospital, please help us by calling the parish offices. It is possible to call after hours and leave a message on our secretary's voice mail (561-5954 x104).

Alternatively, you can download and fill out a St. Gertrude Parish Visitation of the Sick Ministry Request form and fax or return it to the parish.
