Announcing the New Director of Vocations for the Eastern Province Dominicans

Fr. Jacob Bertrand Janczyk, O.P.

A native of Connecticut, Fr. Jacob Bertrand entered the novitiate of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph in 2010 after completing his undergraduate studies at Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY), where he competed in division 1 Cross Country. He made his simple profession in 2011 and was assigned to the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC where he earned his Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 2017. Fr. Jacob Bertrand made solemn profession in 2014 and was ordained a priest in May 2017 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. For the last year Fr. Jacob Bertrand has served as the assistant chaplain at Aquinas House, our Catholic campus ministry center at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.

UPDATE (Summer 2018): Since Dartmouth College has a full summer term taking place right now and Fr. Jacob Bertrand still has various pastoral responsibilities, Fr. Benedict Croell OP (the outgoing vocation director) will be assisting Fr. Jacob Bertrand until the end of the summer in order to assist in his transition. With over 70 men in formation, the Province of St. Joseph is blessed with one of the largest vocation programs in the country. Please pray for him and plan to be in touch with him soon!

Again this year, the Knights of Columbus is organizing a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit the Pregnancy Care Center at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church located in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati. Over the last 7 years, the generous parishioners of St. Gertrude have donated over $45,000 to help Old St. Mary's provide education and care for women during and after pregnancy. Teri Huwel - the Director of the center - shares how these funds are used to support their mission:

"Our mission at Old St. Mary’s Pregnancy Center is to save the lives of unborn children and help their moms with material supplies. Also, our counseling and daily Bible Study (well attended) helps with Evangelization.

4th Saturday Rosary From the Knights of Columbus

A "Thank you" and "God Bless" to all St. Gertrude parishioners who participated in the 4th Saturday Rosary at the abortion facility in Sharonville over the last 6+ years. Thanks in part to your prayers, late-term abortionist Martin Haskell recently retired and closed the facility - although his business in Dayton remains open. Praise God for this life-affirming victory!
