Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship

In 2015, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops updated its statement on political responsibility, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, for the 2016 election. The current document has its roots in 2007. One significant addition is a new introductory note addressing the current election cycle. This asks, “We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of goodwill to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching.”

The U.S. bishops at their fall general assembly approved an updated version of “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” Included in the text is a summary of policy positions of the USCCB. To read the full document online, visit http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/

Mother Teresa National Prayer Breakfast Speech - 1994

National Prayer Breakfast President Clinton participated in the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton Hotel. In his remarks, the president stated, "It is important to reaffirm that in this nation where we have freedom of religion, we need not seek freedom from religion." Quoting from Professor Stephen Carter’s book, “The Culture of Disbelief,” the president stated that "we should all seek to know and to do God’s will, even when we differ."

Prior to the president’s address, Mother Teresa addressed the audience and pleaded with them to “stop the killing” with regard to U.S. abortion policy.

The Saint Anne and the Child Mary Guild Form (Young Ladies) - Fall 2016

It is important for the Church to create the conditions that will permit many young people to say 'yes' in generous response to God‘s loving call... It is my hope that the local Churches will become places where vocations are carefully discerned and their authenticity tested; places where young men and women are offered wise and strong spiritual direction. In this way, the Christian community itself becomes a manifestation of the Love of God in which every calling is contained.
—Pope Benedict XVI, 49th World Day of Prayer for Vocations

The Saint Anne and the Child Mary Guild is a spiritual guild for young ladies beginning in the 4th grade through high school. The Guild is directly involved in assisting with the beauty and care of our Church environment. The Guild helps young ladies discern how best to serve the church community, including preparing for the holy celebration of the Mass, seasonal devotional spaces, floral design for displays of statues, icons, flowers and plants. The Guild is also an opportunity for us to pray together and receive instruction about feminine and Dominican spirituality, consecrated life, and motherhood with the spiritual assistance and guidance of our own Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia. Once a month, September through May, we will come together to pray, serve, and learn. Meeting topics include the Mass and Sacraments, Sacred Scripture, Mary and the Rosary, and the lives of the Saints. We also have planned some great activities, crafts, and snacks, and you won’t want to miss our end-of-the-year Tea Party! The Guild is sponsored by our head sacristan/liturgical coordinator, the Dominican sisters, and mentor mothers. Please go to our website to sign up

We would love for you to join us on Saturday, October 8. Bring any friends who might be interested! We’ll gather from 9-11:15am in the Parish Center.
