Take A Stand For Life - September 28 - November 6

From September 28 to November 6, our community will unite with many others from coast to coast - and internationally - for a major simultaneous pro-life mobilization - the 40 days for Life campaign. Faithful believers are praying that these efforts will mark the beginning of the end of abortion.

40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God's power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion.

Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship

In 2015, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops updated its statement on political responsibility, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, for the 2016 election. The current document has its roots in 2007. One significant addition is a new introductory note addressing the current election cycle. This asks, “We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of goodwill to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching.”

The U.S. bishops at their fall general assembly approved an updated version of “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” Included in the text is a summary of policy positions of the USCCB. To read the full document online, visit http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/

Mother Teresa National Prayer Breakfast Speech - 1994

National Prayer Breakfast President Clinton participated in the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton Hotel. In his remarks, the president stated, "It is important to reaffirm that in this nation where we have freedom of religion, we need not seek freedom from religion." Quoting from Professor Stephen Carter’s book, “The Culture of Disbelief,” the president stated that "we should all seek to know and to do God’s will, even when we differ."

Prior to the president’s address, Mother Teresa addressed the audience and pleaded with them to “stop the killing” with regard to U.S. abortion policy.

Saint Joseph the Worker Society (Young Men) Sign Up Form - Fall 2016

It is important for the Church to create the conditions that will permit many young people to say 'yes' in generous response to God‘s loving call... It is my hope that the local Churches will become places where vocations are carefully discerned and their authenticity tested; places where young men and women are offered wise and strong spiritual direction. In this way, the Christian community itself becomes a manifestation of the Love of God in which every calling is contained.

—Pope Benedict XVI, 49th World Day of Prayer for Vocations

The St. Joseph the Worker Society recruits young men from the 4th grade through high school. They are trained to serve holy Mass and other important liturgical celebrations. The Society for the young men will be an opportunity for them to be mentored in Dominican spirituality, build community, and provide needed service to the church. It is a program of fraternity, discipline, accountability, and discernment; the spirituality of manhood, priesthood, and fatherhood is the focus of the training for our young men. This program is organized by the pastor and parochial vicars and will involve fathers from the parish as well.

Dear Parents and Boys, Grades 4-12,

Welcome to the altar server training program here at St. Gertrude’s!

It is indeed a great privilege to be able to serve Holy Mass. One must be mature, disciplined, striving to be holy, and willing to take directions from Fr. André-Joseph, Fr. Gabriel, and older altar boys.

Do you have the qualities needed to serve as an altar boy at St. Gertrude church? Remember the qualities listed above before you say yes. Attendance at the sessions does not guarantee that you will be allowed to serve Holy Mass. Fr. Andre-Joseph and Fr. Carroll will make their decisions based on your ability to be mature, disciplined, striving to be holy, and able to take directions during the training sessions.

Please note the following dates for the training sessions. All sessions are held in the church. You must attend all three sessions in order to begin serving here at St. Gertrude’s. No exceptions will be made.

1st Session: Tuesday, Oct. 11, 6-8:30pm

  • Introduction into the Ministry of Altar Server
  • The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
  • Explanation of liturgical objects, vestments, etc.

2nd Session: Thursday, Oct. 13, 6-8:30pm

  • How to serve Mass.

3rd Session: Tuesday, Oct. 18, 6-8:30pm

  • How to serve Mass.
