From our inception in 1882 by Father Michael McGivney at St.
Mary's Catholic Church (today a Dominican parish) in New Haven,
Connecticut, the Knights of Columbus have always strived to
make a difference in our world. From helping the needy; making
large donations to charity; protecting the lives of the unborn;
restoring St. Peter's Basilica in Rome; providing benefits to
our families; fighting the war against pornography; to bringing
the message of the Pope and the Holy Catholic Church to the
world. The Knights of Columbus are committed to the vision of
Father McGivney and to the service of God, family, and community.
The Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Elder Council #1195 at
St. Gertrude Parish is the oldest council in Cincinnati and
is among more than 10,000 in a worldwide organization that offers
top-rated family insurance to its members. Archbishop Elder
Council also includes a Ladies Auxiliary. Locally, Elder Council
raises funds for charity, particularly for the mentally handicapped,
and generously supports the Youth
Ministry at St. Gertrude Parish.
Archbishop Elder Council #1195 is proud to be one of the main
sponsors for Cincinnati 2OOO. Past retreats have taken place
at Moeller High School and Elder High School. The K of C gave
generous financial support and headed up logistics for these
exciting events. Typically, several hundred area youth attend
these events!! The next Cincinnati 2OOO will be April 11-13,
2008 at Moeller High School. Much more financial aid will be
needed.
Membership in Archbishop Elder Council at St. Gertrude is well
worth considering for any Catholic man in good standing with
the Church who is interested in helping others. Meetings are
the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. For more information,
contact St. Gertrude parishioners John Holden, 984-8175, or
Al Stevenson, 561-9236. Visit our web site at http://www.elderkofc.com.
