About Our Program

The St. Gertrude Parish Religious Education Program serves parish children age 3 through Grade 8. Our program follows guidelines and objectives set forth in the Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study which provides curriculum standards for all parish schools and religious education programs. We are truly blessed to currently have over 550 students and 60 dedicated and generous volunteers active in our program. Pre-school classes for ages 3, 4, and 5 are offered on Sunday mornings. Grade 1 through 8 have the option of registering for Sunday morning or Tuesday afternoon sessions. Classes are offered as follows:

Sundays
9:15 am - 10:30 am
Grades 1-8

Sundays
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Ages 3, 4, and 5

Tuesdays

Grades 1-8

Sacramental Preparation

We feel privileged to share the honor of helping your child prepare to receive the sacraments. At St. Gertrude Parish, the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are celebrated during the second grade year. Confirmation occurs during eighth grade. Children are required to have completed one full year of religious instruction prior to the year of sacramental preparation. In addition to attending class, weekly celebration of the holy sacrifice of the Mass is an expectation for all students in grades two through eight. Parent meetings are held prior to sacrament reception to communicate what is being covered during class, offer ideas and suggestions for activities to be done at home, and to share information regarding logistics of the ceremonies. On a Saturday morning prior to receiving the sacraments, your child will participate in a prayerful and fun mini-retreat that will help us prepare for the special day!

RCIA for Children

The Rite of Christian Initiation of children is offered for children who were not baptized as infants or those who were baptized, but have not yet received the other sacraments of initiation. Please contact the Director of Religious Education for details regarding this exciting, informative, and faith-filled journey!

Youth Ministry

Our Youth Minister works with students in grades 9-12 who desire to be Confirmed or receive the other sacraments of initiation. Please call 561-5954 ext. 143 for more information regarding our Youth Ministry program and the many exciting opportunities offered for high school students.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is offered in late June for ages 4 through 10. This week-long celebration of faith, friends, and fun consists of a variety of hands-on activities, songs, Bible stories, and crafts.

Volunteers

We invite you to join our team of generous and dedicated volunteers. Please consider giving of your time and talents as a teacher, co-teacher, or assistant. You can help make a difference in the lives of our parish children as you witness to the importance of faith and accompany them on a year-long journey to discover God's great love.
