Catholic Ministries Appeal 2020
We are honored that the Very Reverend Fr. André-Joseph LaCasse asked us to be this year’s representatives for the CMA at St. Gertrude Parish. It provides us the opportunity to share with the St. Gertrude family why we continue to support the CMA. We have been members of St. Gertrude Parish since 2011 and have always supported the Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA).
The donations received for the CMA support six local ministries and the dollars are well spent as 92% of each dollar is given directly to these ministries.
Seeing children with special needs tugs at our emotional heartstrings and we want to help, but often do not know what to do. Giving to the CMA provides us with the opportunity to touch the lives of these special children at St. Rita School for the Deaf. Since its inception, St. Rita has provided services to over 2,600 children with profound hearing loss and have expanded services to include children with Apraxia, Down Syndrome and those on the Autism Spectrum.
As Catholics, we are called to evangelize and share the name of Jesus Christ. Supporting the CMA is vital to continuing evangelization and discipleship ministries throughout the Archdiocese and to help people to encounter Christ in their own lives. We are so blessed to be able support the The New Evangelization.
As a cradle-Catholic and Donna as a convert we have met many wonderful priests that have shaped and taught us our Catholic faith. Giving to the CMA allows us to contribute to The Priest Retirement Fund and support all the wonderful priests we have met in our lives during their later years. Retired priest continue to serve in their ministry by assisting pastors with weekend Masses, hearing confessions, and visiting the sick and are in need of continued financial support.
The CMA provide support for college student ministries. Students at non-Catholic universities are given the opportunity to grow in their relationship to Jesus Christ and His Church because the CMA provides ministry programs.
The CMA supports local hospitals by providing Catholic chaplains and lay pastoral ministers the opportunity to minister to families who are in the hospital.
The Prison/Jail Ministry receives CMA financial support by providing the Sacraments as well as religious instruction.
The CMA funds Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio and Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley. We are grateful that this program feeds the hungry, offers emergency help; family support services, pregnancy counseling, and adoption support services.
Lastly, The CMA contributes to the education of our future spiritual leaders, ensuring there will be priests and religious to serve the next generations. Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology trains priest, religious, deacons, and other lay ministers for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
In closing the Archdiocese sets a CMA monetary goal for each parish. Due to the generosity of the parishioners, St. Gertrude continuously exceeds its goal. You can donate today during the offertory collection by using the special envelope in the pew. If not, please take this letter, pray, and return next weekend with your offering during Commitment Weekend. No gift is too small. As Saint Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) reminds us—If each of us puts our drop in the bucket, we would have a tidal wave. The opportunity to use your company’s matching gift programs is also available. There are instructions on how to do that is on the envelope.
Please remember, when you support the Catholic Ministries Appeal, it helps thousands of people all year long.
Thank you and God bless you,
Donna and Pete Marcello
