Pope Francis intends “to carry out a solemn Act of Consecration of humanity, and Russia and Ukraine in particular, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary” this Friday March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation. In a letter to all bishops, the Holy Father wrote, “this Act of Consecration is meant to be a gesture of the universal Church, which in this dramatic moment lifts up to God, through his Mother and ours, the cry of pain of all those who suffer and implore an end to the violence, and to entrust the future of our human family to the Queen of Peace.”
Pope Francis has asked the faithful around the world to join him in this Act. After the 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Gertrude Church on Friday, March 25, the congregation will recite the Prayer of Consecration together. We invite you to join us for this Mass and in raising “a heartfelt and choral plea to Mary our Mother.” If you are unable to attend the 11:30 a.m. Mass or pray with us, please recite the Prayer of Consecration on your own sometime during the day. On March 16, Pope Francis announced that he will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary next Friday, March 25, at 5 p.m. in Rome (12 p.m. here).
Today, Archbishop Schnurr wrote a letter to the faithful, urging all Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to pray a rosary novena for peace in Ukraine beginning today and culminating on March 25. The archbishop will conclude the novena with Mass at 11:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica. All are invited to attend. Echoing yesterday's statement from the USCCB Administrative Committee, “prayer is never a feeble gesture of last resort! It is a weapon of hope.” Please join the archbishop, the faithful in the archdiocese, and people all over the world in fervently praying for an end to the war in Ukraine and for peace.
It’s time to kick off the 2022 Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The CMA is our opportunity each year to support the work of six vital ministries, all of which operate right here in our archdiocese. These ministries include:
The week of January 23, 2022, families will be receiving a CMA mailing from Archbishop Schnurr. In the meantime, please listen to the archbishop's CMA message, explaining how our support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal allows us to stand with the ministries that teach, feed, and heal throughout the archdiocese. Thanks to the generosity of 308 families here at St. Gertrude, we pledged $107,519.00 to the 2021 CMA. This year, our goal is $84,363—and if we exceed our goal, 50 percent of our over-goal amount comes back to St. Gertrude to be used here at the parish. Please prayerfully consider how you will contribute to the 2022 CMA. You can complete your pledge card and return it in the envelope provided, or bring your completed pledge card and envelope to Mass. For more information or to donate online, please visit CatholicAOC.org/CMA. Thank you! This summer, St. Gertrude Church will begin Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Catechist Formation courses for both Level 1 and Level 2. If you have experienced the impact that CGS has made on your child’s life of faith and feel called to participate in this ministry as a catechist or an assistant catechist, please consider this opportunity. You will learn how to lead children to encounter Jesus through this beautiful method. Dan Teller, catechist and founder of Good Shepherd Catholic Montessori, will be leading the training.
For more information and to register, please check out the Level 1 and Level 2 course brochures. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Beth Dickert, coordinator of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at [email protected] or (513) 561-8369 ext. 2110. Please share this invitation with interested family members and friends. The weekend of January 8-9, 2022, the Ladies of Charity will be collecting items for Bethany House, an agency which empowers homeless and at-risk families with solutions to achieve housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
Bethany House is in need of items to fill the “Exit Basket” provided to each client family as they start a new life in more stable housing. Requested items include:
Thank you for your generous support. If you have any questions about Bethany House or Ladies of Charity, please call Jean Wilkinson at (513) 498-5085. November 20-21, 2021 is our annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), the U.S. bishops' national anti-poverty campaign. As Archbishop Schnurr mentions in this letter, CCHD has been an immeasurable blessing for thousands in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati over the years.
