Anointing of the Sick

“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them” (CCC 1499). The special grace of this sacrament unites the sick person to the passion of Jesus, strengthens them in their suffering, heals sins, and may bring about restoration of health if it is beneficial for the soul. It prepares those near death to pass over to eternal life.
